As part of measures to protect students, staff and their dependants from COVID-19 pandemic, the Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi has established an isolation and treatment centres to aid in the fight against the spread of the pandemic. The move forms part of the mandate of the COVID-19 coordinating team set up by the Executive Management Committee of the University in the wake of the fight against the spread of the novel Coronavirus.
The isolation and treatment centres would enable the University Health Directorate to move any member of the University Community who might be infected with the virus into isolation to prevent the virus from spreading to others.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director of University Health Services, Dr. Osei Owusu Ansah thanked Management for the immense support the University hospital has received from them so far.
Dr. Ansah urged the general public to stop stigmatising against persons infected with the virus. He observed that, though the virus is new, many people who have become infected are responding to treatment faster than many health experts had expected. He noted that if we all adhere to the preventive protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service, the country could lower the rate of infections drastically.
